Scottsman's Uncertainty Principle

The Scottsman's Uncertainty Principle (SUP) refers to the idea that it's very difficult or impossible to fully perceive the innate, static, or "vertical axis" qualities of a part of a musical gesture without also decoupling those motes and/or particles from the time dimension/horizontal axis dependent context that gives them their full exact feelings and qualities they have. SUP often makes deep listening sessions frustrating for musicians, leaving them feel like no matter how hard they listen, the true secrets of how music works will remain elusive and somewhat ineffable.

The name "Scottsman" comes from the last name Scott and Sussman, which are the last names of the two fizz musicians who came up with this concept, but it also obviously sounds like "Scotsman", which is just very funny in multiple ways. The "uncertainty principle" part of the name comes from the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle in physics.
