Minor11 of the Gaps

Minor11 of the gaps refers to the phenomenon of many j*zz and nujazz/jazztronica musicians defaulting to the use of min11 (specifically a chord with the tones 1 b3 5 b7 9 11) to fill gaps in harmonic ability (to create based chord progressions essentially) when they don't know what to do next. It is proposed that this might have to due with min11 having a sort of telelogically neutral sound, in which it can be inserted more or less anywhere and have a good chance of sounding like it belongs there. Min11 is also in general a pretty beloved sound/vertical harmonic color by many, which combined with its ease of use, can lead to a feeling of overuse and sonic choice laziness to those that have the ears to hear it.
