Flamchaining is a music production phenomenon where a transient in the track being sidechained occurs right before the sidechain dip, resulting in an unpleasant “flam”. Usually a result of the sidechained track being unquantized, flamchaining results in choppy, unnatural transients.
“I forgot to quantize the piano on the WIP, so it’s getting flamchained pretty bad.”
Flamchaining is generally seen as unpleasant to listen to, but it can be used to achieve unique, interesting rhythmic effects when utilized by a skilled music producer.
