The harmonic minor modes (Appalachian modes) are a modal system of scales derived from the harmonic minor scale (also known as Appalachian).
This scale with the notes 1 2 ♭3 4 5 ♭6 7 is a minor scale (aeolian) with a natural 7th. This scale and the modes thereof have a unique, spicy sound. These modes exist in Neo-Rimsky-Korsakovian Space.
The Laramidian (harmonic major) modes are paramodes to the Appalachian modes with a I:V pass formula. Thus, they together form the Harmonic Ioni-Aeolian (HRMIA) hypermodal complex, the only one of it's kind within NeRK.
