Palmdale

A Palmdale is a short, typically instrumental song built primarily from a repeating, defined looping gesture(s). Palmdale compositions often employ the use of subtle variations each time the main gesture or progression loops in order to keep an overall sense of variety, which can turn the at first glance simplistic composition into something a musican can spend hours upon hours perfecting. Not all of the layered loops in a palmdale need to repeate their cycle at the same time; you can have a progression that repeats every 4 measures, a melody every 8, and a drum loops every 2 all in one.

The term palmdale was named after the Louis Cole song Palmdale Cruisin', whose live show promotion video music variation is a quintessential palmdale composition.
